Hello world!

Dipping my toes into the brave new ocean of Web2.0.  To blog or not to blog.  I blog, therefore I am (in the on-line world)? The creation of this blog was inspired by Gardner Campbell’s talk at BLC6 (Biology Leadership Conference) at the beautiful Lowe’s Ventana Canyon resort.  I think the idea is to learn about on-line communities and the blogosphere, and how we may be able to channel some of the energy and creativity our students put into Facebook and other social networking activities to learning and communicating biology.  Can we get students to blog about their freshman biology class, the concepts and topics we present?  Will social networking promote the formation of learning communities?  Will network effects suddenly emerge, and to what effect? In the spirit of experimental science, with some trepidation, off I go “into the jungle” of Web 2.0.
